It is very rare for a freshman to make much of a contribution to a high school varsity football. How about a freshman running back who averaged 9.3-yards per carry, carried it a tad under 200-times, gained nearly 2,000 yards, and scored a TD every 8.65 carries? What about that for rare? We are recognizing the inordinate freshman season of Taylor County’s Peyton Smith this week. We felt his numbers were worthy of recognition and required nourishment. Zri Dabney, No. 29 on the roster but foremost on opponent’s scouting reports, is a ’23 prospect sure to make quite a bit of noise around the 8th-District in Class 6A this coming Fall. He was the Blue Devils’ top defensive threat over the course of the ’21 season and sure to be as be-deviling his senior year at Bryan Station as a Defender. Enjoy the feature. HB.

He is locked in a tough battle for the starting QB slot at Lexington’s Layfayette High School and in the 6A classification, the real firs-stringer needs badly to reveal himself.
