Is the 2019 Caudill Middle School varsity football team (@BMCMS on Twitter) the best middle school football team in Kentucky’s history?

November 20, 2019 Henry Lyon 0

A subscriber contacted us and asked us whether Caudill Middle School’s 2019 football team which just won its second, consecutive KYMSFA football championship is the “best middle school team” to ever take a Kentucky football field. It is an interesting question and one which we discuss at some length in this article. Enjoy!

Just the Facts…

We have taken to putting more of our articles behind the pay-wall for the benefit of our subscribers only. After all, the subscribers to the site and the advertisers are the only people to whom we answer in the end. Much of the information we relate is valuable to our subscribers and advertisers which is why they support us. It wouldn’t be right, and would deny them the benefit of their bargains, to just give it away to any and everyone. Sorry, it’s called capitalism. We have forecast the winners of nearly every game to be played November 1, 2019. Let’s see how we do. We were 42-6 in the 48 we picked last week. Enjoy the article but only if you are a member or advertiser. Otherwise, you can begin wondering what we said about your team’s chances.

Gough to start against Henderson County

October 29, 2019 Henry Lyon 0

Gough is used to doing things well before anyone thinks he can. He started at one of Kentucky’s premier high-school programs as a freshman, he set the school’s single-season tackle mark as a sophomore, he made the AP All-State Football First-Team as a sophomore. The list just never seems to end. When he broke his leg the projections were he would be through for the year. Well, in keeping with Gough tradition, he was cleared to return to action in game 9. This makes him available for the playoffs, rested and full speed. Owensboro, at 8-1, was winning even without its marquee superstar. Imagine what they will do in the playoff run with him. Boggles the mind, doesn’t it?

It is getting time to start thinking about All-State selections. When it comes to voting on the All-State team (AP), we nominate guys positionally for inclusion. What we mean by that is when the AP asks for five linemen we nominate a center, two guards, and two tackles. The way we treat it is who would we want if this mythical team were going to play a game against another team and we really, really wanted to win. When we are asked for 4 defensive linemen, for instance, we give two DEs and two interior guys for the mythical defensive line. We nominate two safeties and two corners for the back end, so on and so forth. Our criteria is a simple one, our first team player would have to be good enough to transfer anywhere in Kentucky and be first team wherever he landed at the position at which he is being nominated. With that as a working criteria, which isn’t going to change, we will feature, from now through the opening of the ballot, players we believe fit that bill. We will start with a DE from Anderson County for which there will be little to any debate.

Drew Hartz, Owensboro Catholic’s Class of 2020 QB

September 25, 2019 Henry Lyon 0

Everybody in Kentucky is talking about Boyle County’s Reed Lanter or Beau Allen from Lexington Catholic and those guys are fantastic. However, don’t forget about a guy who QB rating is probably the very best in the commonwealth and who has his team in the mix, week after week, for so long as he has been under its center. Drew Hartz is an exceptional performer and one for whom a feature is WAY OVERDUE. Enjoy the article.

Regarding Hopkinsville’s Reece Jesse, Jr.,…we told you so!

September 19, 2019 Henry Lyon 0

Reece Jesse is killing it out there for the Tigers as they head into their 5th game. This game is against the cross-town rivals, Christian County, who is winless on the year. If the Colonels can’t solve the Jesse-riddle regarding how to keep him from beating them, they will leave Friday night remaining “winless.” You can throw the records out the window when these two play. KPGFootball will have someone in Hopkinsville watching the game for us. Matter of fact, old Coach Lyon may just take this game in personally. Enjoy the article.

The Product is Glorious!

Colleague of mine called me just yesterday and asked if I had heard about the game between Jordan Miles (Trigg) and Joshuah Keith (Todd) I asked him, “Are you serious? What kind of an outfit do you think we’re running over here?”

Hey, when two of the best football players in Kentucky’s 2024 class lock-horns, KPGFootball is going to be there. The result of the confrontation was gloriously played football played between two very fine football teams.

What’s this we see? Todd County is ranked in football?

September 4, 2019 Henry Lyon 1

Don’t adjust your screen, there’s nothing wrong with your computer, but yes…that is Todd County in this Week’s AP Top-10 football poll Some people refer to head coach Darrell Keith simply as the man in the fedora. Kids, both his and the ones against whom his teams play, refer to […]

It’s football…not a track meet and not a fashion show!

September 2, 2019 Henry Lyon 0

How does a Georgia State beat a Tennessee in Knoxville and not just beat the Volunteers, but dominate them? Well, it starts by requiring the coaching staff to select the team’s roster and not out-sourcing it to some recruiting service which is assigning stars to the players they find the prettiest and most statuesque. Football isn’t a track meet or a fashion show, it is about blocking, tackling, running between the tackles, getting down hill, and other things unrelated to how one looks. It is a contact sport played by tough guys. We used to know that, and at Georgia State, they appear to still know it.
