‘Birchfield’…won the weekly prize on November 23, 2022, and finished off the season with a title
Blake Birchfield has accomplished some of the more incredible feats this publication has ever covered since coming online over six (6) years ago. This season, Birchfield certainly didn’t disappoint. The senior RB won this coveted (weekly) award in November, helped carry his team to another title, and was selected to our very own All-State, first-team. We would consider that a pretty, dad-burn-good year. For this reason, we have voted to award Birchfield our Mingua Beef Jerky Protein-packed Performer of the Year.

Migua Beef Jerky uses Enviro-Pac CHU-2000 equipment to cook its meat to USDA required levels for both moist or dry operation. Mingua Beef Jerky wants you to become one of its many satisfied customers by sampling its quality hand sliced, all natural beef jerky. We know you’ll love it and come back for more, again and again.
Ronnie Mingua began experimenting with making beef jerky back in the 1990s. He shared his efforts with neighbors and friends, soon realizing he had come up with something different and superior to all other beef jerkies on the market. From these humble beginnings, Mingua Beef Jerky got its start.
Today, the Mingua Beef Jerky Company still prides itself on using its old-fashioned, all-natural recipes which offer outstanding products to customers across the nation. The recipes are a family tradition, passed down from generation to generation.
Our recipes and our quality ingredients, hand-cut from solid pieces of beef, are never chopped or formed like other brands, making our products superior and one of a kind. That would make our products similar to this year’s Protein Packed Performer, Blake Birchfield, ’23 RB, from Pikeville, Kentucky’s Pikeville High, wouldn’t it?
Blake Birchfield has been among the more prolific rushers in the KHSAA for a few seasons. Stories detailing his many feats are approaching countless.
Birchfield, a senior RB for Pikeville, over the course of his senior season, gained 2,031-yards rushing on 222-carries with 35-rushing TD’s. This comes on the heels of his gaining over 2,500-yards rushing with 25-rushing TD’s just one year ago, as a junior. Birchfield scored another pair of TD’s swinging out of the backfield on pass plays this Fall.
With Birchfield as the primary offensive running component, Pikeville finished 12-2 on the year while winning another 1A championship trophy. For the Panthers, this title is its third over the course of the last four years and seventh overall.
Birchfield was 61% of the team’s yards gained from scrimmage, 60% of the rushing TD’s scored, and 37% of the points scored by the entire team all season long.
He also picked off a pass on defense. Birchfield returned it 28-yards.
Birchfield led the team on the season in scoring with 226-points. That is 16.1-points per ball game. That is plain crazy from a production standpoint.
We have awarded this to Birchfield as we can’t fathom how any one player could ever mean this much to a team. On this basis, Mingua Beef Jerky and we decided this talented and accomplished ’25 RB could use a bolt of protein and a sweet T-shirt. The company volunteered to send him some straight away.
Join us next week as we return to honoring weekly prize winners. Until then, pop some Mingua Beef Jerky in your mouth and savor the quality and flavor which sets it apart from all the competition. Remember, our product is superior and one of a kind; just like Pikeville High’s Blake Birchfield.
This is HB Lyon reporting for Kentucky Prep Gridiron reminding you that WE’RE JUST CALLING IT LIKE WE SEE IT and don’t forget to SAVOR THE FLAVOR!
