We voted for Layton Davis, first-team (on our AP ballot), when he was still at Caldwell County last season. Layton was “Honorably Mentioned” on the AP team and first-team on KPGFootball’s squad as only a junior. There isn’t a coach in the West who wouldn’t pick him first if assembling a team and needing an inside presence along the front. This kid is All-State, all day long, and our sources tell us might possibly be headed to play for Lindsey-Wilson. Enjoy the feature. HB.

DeAndre Malone really played at an incredibly high level all season long for Coach Chris Wolfe’s Bulldogs. The Louisville Male product is a first-team all-stater in our estimation. People always want to know how we’re able to identify a future high school star so early in that star’s high school career. Well, it isn’t as hard as you think. Look for the young player who pours it on in the offseason, mix in some measurables and early PT, and that will usually be ‘your guy.’ Big D is our guy and he is also among a handful of the fine OC’s around the commonwealth of Kentucky. What a job Chase Flaherty did filling in at RB for the newly crowned 2A Kentucky Champions, Beechwood, after it lost its “Mr. Football” candidate Mitchell Berger. Almost makes you think the Tigers are elite across the offensive front, which is the case by the way. Still, the championship game came down to Mayfield’s extra-point attempt sailing wide of a college goal post which would have been good had the kicker been kicking toward a high school goal post.
