Zane Cook reminds us of an interior OL who doubled along the defensive front and has played defensively in college at prestigious Centre College. We are talking of the two-way, All-Stater, William Long formerly from Breathitt, which was also a 2A ball club. Cook’s QB from last season, Zane Cartwright has just inked with the Colonels. We are approaching round four (4) in the KHSAA playoffs. All of these teams left standing are very good. There are exactly no bad apples left in the barrel. It will be the “little things” which differentiate between winning and losing at this point. “Mighty Mayfield” has themselves the home field and a kicker in Lincoln Suiter who has before come through for the Cardinals in a “big game,” with the game on the line. If called upon, Friday night, will he come through once more? We shall see, but the Cardinals are confident. Enjoy the feature. HB.

Zane Cartwright and his Mayfield Cardinals travel to Fort Mitchell tonight to take on the defending champion in 2A football in Beechwood Independent High School. The reigning “Mr. Football” will be under center for the Tigers. The Cardinals will have the reigning Independence Bank Revolutionary Player of the Week under center for them. One thing is certain, not a single fan from either team will file into the stadium thinking the other has any chance at victory at all and that is what makes programs like these two so great. Enjoy this feature and join us again a week from today and we will repeat this exercise which makes our week. HB.

We heard a team in Eastern Kentucky one time referenced as “The Mayfield of the Mountains.” They were quite pleased with that reference. They should be. However, this is “The Mayfield which is the actual Mayfield” we’re talking about today. They has lost a ton of offensive production. They have lost quite a bit in the third defensive level too. Is Kylan Galbreath enough to lead them back to Lexington? We will look at that in this article. HB.
