This usually is a pretty fun article. A few days ago we posted the “KPGFootball Scorecard.” On that document we memorialized the matchup and just who we believed would win and why. What we do in the scorecard is give you the solution. What we don’t do is demonstrate how we worked the problem. Thursdays, during the football season, we often publish an article which “shows our math.” If you read this article you will see why we picked the teams we picked to win and why we picked the teams we picked to lose. Today we break down the 5A classification. Lots of people are going to pick Owensboro (Senior) and with good reason. They won it a year ago and, but for the loss of Evan Hampton, have a ton of talent returning. Of course, losing “Mr. Football” is kind of a big loss. We like Scott County. The Cardinals look to us to have it all. They have a lot of skills coming back, are very strong in the run game, and have one of the better athletes across the board playing in the KHSAA game today. They also have an amazing coaching staff loaded up with Hall of Fame types. Woodford County, Atherton, and Bowling Green will be heard from too and Pulaski and South Laurel better be watched. It is that time of year. It is time to start figuring which teams, entering the ’25 season, figure to factor in the title chase. We have detailed what we think here and it is based on our study of the incoming, ’25 rosters, what players return, what players graduated, and other various factors we have perfected through the years to render such predictions. We plan to do this for all of Kentucky’s six (6) classifications and there is no guarantee we will go in order from the top down, or the bottom to the top. There are good football teams in the KHSAA and there are bad ones and those teams span all of the six classes. Enjoy today’s look at 5A. Keep checking back as we may drop another class any time we feel like it.
