Like we have done in prior seasons, now the games are finally here, we will take the last week’s action and break it down and then look at the road ahead. We got an unexpected off week when lightening precluded our playing Kentucky Country Day in a game which will not be rescheduled. We have a winnable game on the road tomorrow night against a team with tradition, second to none on this end of the commonwealth. Russellville High School is struggling this year (0-5) but this program played for the 1A title just a few short years ago (2021) and has won three titles (1980, ’83, and ’90) while playing for four (4) more (1964, ’66, ’87, and 2021) Enjoy this feature and get out to the games this weekend. Remember, your hometown heroes need a little help from you! See you at the game!

I remember when Russellville High owned western, small enrollment, Kentucky, high school football. Of course, they always had to contend with “Mighty Mayfield;” but, the two of them seemed to yearly contend for supremacy both on the western end of Kentucky and, generally, in the commonwealth. Ken Barrett was the coach of most of those fine, fine Russellville teams. We decided to feature him today. No legitimate discussion of the greatest all-time high school football coaches in Kentucky would be complete without featuring the man known simply as “Coach.” Enjoy the feature.

Friday Night Fletch.

Russellville is a program we are accustomed to watching thrive. It wasn’t too many years ago the Panthers were taking Pikeville to the wire in the 1A title game on Kroger Field on the campus of UK. The Panthers limped through a tough season but showed some promise as young players filled spots one usually see filled by young guys. Bodes well for the future. Enjoy this feature and don’t forget to get by your local Independence Bank and discover why and how our people, financial products, and services have started a revolution in the Kentucky banking industry. Russellville lost a ton off its Semi-state champion roster from ’21. Still, young players, the ilk of Octavious McKeage, give the Panther faithful reason for optimism going forward. Enjoy this feature and find out today why Independence Bank has started a revolutionary in the financial services market and is the fastest growing bank in the commonwealth of Kentucky. KeVauhn Edmonds may be the best kept secret in Kentucky’s ’24 graduating class of football prospects. He plays football at one of Kentucky’s most storied programs particularly among 1A teams on the western end of the commonwealth. Edmonds is our Revolutionary Player of the Week. Enjoy this feature from Kentucky’s fastest growing financial institution; setting the standard for excellence in the financial services, Kentucky market. HB.

Kentucky presents real opportunity for colleges wise enough to comb its fertile recruiting fields for football talent. There is no shortage of talent and, matter of fact, lucky college programs can come up with superior talent just lying around waiting to be claimed. Camden Phillips is a kid who, if he played in Nashville, TN, he might be headed to Auburn. As it is…well, here’s your Huckleberry as Doc Holiday would say. HB.

Russellville High had a ton of talent coming into the ’21 season. It was why we predicted preseason they would challenge for the title in the 1A classification and we couldn’t have been more correct. One guy who gets overlooked but shouldn’t is the subject of today’s feature. Enjoy the article. HB.
