First of all, both the fine people at Mingua Beef Jerky and KPGFootball would like to express heartfelt care and concern for all those impacted by what has been termed the worst tornado in the history of Kentucky. We hope our efforts may bring a moment of comfort to those whose lives have been so inestimably impacted. There were a plethora of candidates for this week’s award and many of them had just won championships. This award is going to a player who just missed out on winning a championship though not because of anything he either did or didn’t do. This guy performed brilliantly in multiple phases of the game and stood out for a team which came one possession away from perhaps pulling it out. It is very hard to gauge accurately the accomplishments of the guys who play along the scrimmage line, on offense or defense. We are committed to the effort because Mingua Beef Jerky and KPGFootball recognize that winning football begins right there, on the scrimmage lines. Sometimes the winner of this award doesn’t have the “stand alone numbers” one generally sees from his position group. However, Mingua Beef Jerky also prizes players who invent ways to make things happen even when the opposing defense is trying desperately to take away from that player what he generally contributes. This week’s award recipient came up big in the biggest game of the year for his team to date. Trenton Cutwright had a great night in Bryan Station’s win in Richmond Friday night against highly regarded Madison Central High School. We aren’t going to lie to you. We prefer not to give this award to QBs all the time and we are really hesitant to award it to “past winners.” We strive to spread it around as there are so many weekly worthy players. However, sometimes a former winner, and even a QB, render a performance impossible to ignore. This week, Cameron Hergott, who has put up ridiculous numbers all season, had another performance we just couldn’t ignore. So, the EKU commit wins it again. At the end of this year the Mr. Football award is very likely to follow our lead. Enjoy the article. HB.
Two weeks in a row we have awarded this award to an offensive lineman as we award it to Kentucky’s very best offensive center. We won’t apologize. These guys have been doing the dirty work for little to no fanfare for far too long. We believe this guy is Kentucky’s best offensive center in the game today. Enjoy the feature. HB.
