Sometimes it feels, in the KHSAA, we see the same teams prospering year after year. Well, there is a reason for that…several reasons actually. One reason is not all programs in our commonwealth attribute the same level of importance to football as others. Another reason is some programs are better administered and coached than others. Some programs have superior access to talent as they have larger enrollments or more talent laden areas from which to pool football playing talent. For whatever reason, Versailles, Kentucky appears to mine a rich vein of football playing talent annually and Coach Dennis Johnson and staff appear particularly adept at reaping the benefit from this abundant and wealth-laden resource. Enjoy this look at Jordan Holman, a perfect example of the type of roster talent dotting the Yellowjacket roster and why the Yellowjackets perpetually and annually seem to be in contention.

Today we break down the 5A classification. Lots of people are going to pick Owensboro (Senior) and with good reason. They won it a year ago and, but for the loss of Evan Hampton, have a ton of talent returning. Of course, losing “Mr. Football” is kind of a big loss. We like Scott County. The Cardinals look to us to have it all. They have a lot of skills coming back, are very strong in the run game, and have one of the better athletes across the board playing in the KHSAA game today. They also have an amazing coaching staff loaded up with Hall of Fame types. Woodford County, Atherton, and Bowling Green will be heard from too and Pulaski and South Laurel better be watched. It is that time of year. It is time to start figuring which teams, entering the ’25 season, figure to factor in the title chase. We have detailed what we think here and it is based on our study of the incoming, ’25 rosters, what players return, what players graduated, and other various factors we have perfected through the years to render such predictions. We plan to do this for all of Kentucky’s six (6) classifications and there is no guarantee we will go in order from the top down, or the bottom to the top. There are good football teams in the KHSAA and there are bad ones and those teams span all of the six classes. Enjoy today’s look at 5A.
