William Long has been featured many times on this forum which was partly created to publicize and support his efforts in the game of football from his middle school days forward. He never asked to be covered and, truthfully, William would have much preferred we not write about him. It has been a somewhat constant source of discord between us, truthfully. The problem has always been that William just kept accomplishing incredible things worthy of the “ink.” Yesterday, on his last official day as a football player, he did it a final time. Enjoy this feature about an athlete who made it a common, everyday, experience to bedazzle and bewilder us with the many accomplishments attributed to him through his many years as a football player.

Ross Powers is a 5’7,” 190 pound football playing stud entering his senior year for the Hancock County Hornets. What did he do as a junior? One of our favorite songs used to proclaim loving “red necks, white sox, and blue ribbon beer.” The blue ribbon beer was a reference to Pabst Blue Ribbon, a famous brand of alcoholic beverage. We don’t know if the Pabst family who son is a stud ’27 football player in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky bears any type relation to the Pabst family from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Then again, we don’t know that they don’t. What we do know is Nathan Pabst is dad-burn good at football and he makes his team all the better when he contributes his considerable efforts. There are some really outstanding freshmen football players who got a ton of reps during the ’24 season. There was even a ’28 kid who got 13-games of run behind the best OL unit in Kentucky at any classification. LCA’s Matthew Montgomery is a 6’0,” 230-pound guy with a 275-pound bench, a 405-pound squat, and a penchant for flattening defenders unfortunate enough to get in his pulling trajectory on traps and pulls. Some call him “Mario.” Some just call him “Rio.” All call him special. Litmer is the QB for one of the most high profile programs in Kentucky 5A or at any classification if we are being honest. Litmer is 6’0,” weighs 176-pounds and, at only 16-years of age, completed over 68% of his passing attempts his junior season and finished with a QBR of 128.1. Highlands won 11-games in ’24, made the semis, and have a vital piece back for another run in ’25. Who knows how far this “Mr. Football” candidate can take them.
