His name was James Hollowell. He was from Henderson, Kentucky. He played high school football for Barrett Manual High and later for the University of Louisville. He was a teammate of Johnny Unitas at Louisville. He coached the great Sam Ball in high school who would later star for both UK’s Wildcats and the NFL’s Baltimore Colts. Everyone called him “Mojo,” and Mojo Hollowell brought good fortune, good luck, and good “Mojo” every coaching stop along his career path. Well, scrimmages are in full swing. This time last year, a 4A team I had predicted would struggle tied a 5A power in a scrimmage which made the 4A coach scream all over social media that I was a complete idiot. The 4A team went 1-9, the 5A team challenged for the title at its level of play. Obviously, that scrimmage was meaningless. Well, Friday night Johnson’s Apollo squad pasted Logan County, at 4A team usually in the hunt. What does it mean? Does it mean anything? We’ll discuss. Friday Night Fletch.

This week’s Revolutionary Player of the Week is Jamison Brown from Owensboro’s Apollo High. The ’25 linebacker is fast becoming one of the more talked about, 2nd-level defenders in Kentucky’s south-central/western end. Cooper Jones hasn’t played a ton of football at the varsity level, YET! That doesn’t mean he won’t. Matter of fact, we think this guy challenges this coming Fall camp at both guard slots as well as at center. He’s got some ground to make up; but, if he is diligent, he can demonstrate the same type revolutionary performance which has made Independence Bank stand out in Kentucky financial service’s market. Brady Atwell has been called the QB prospect with the highest ceiling starting under center for the Aces in a long, long time. Scary thing is, he may be a better prospect at LBer according to one of his coaches. Harold Patterson’s Eagles really struggled in the opener against the Red Devils from Owensboro High School. Not many teams invade Red Devil Stadium and come away looking too good. The Eagles really need to rebound tonight when Meade County’s “Green Wave” come crashing into Apollo’s shore looking for high tide. Coach Edge’s Eagles will need another performance like Patterson turned in against Owensboro (Senior) High to have a chance to emerge victorious. This is an example where an early offer may have stopped other schools from offering. Logan was offered by the Wildcats in 2017 and has only added one other offer since (WKU). Of course, one doesn’t need but one, one can only accept one anyway.
