Jack Long is a kid we weren’t sure would get cleared to play the coming season. As it turns out, he got cleared by provided he wears a helmet specifically designed to avoid head trauma, limit his contact through the week, and be permitted to wear a concussion cap during KHSAA games. As it turns out, Jack’s rejoining the team was important for reasons other than football. One of Jack’s coaches suffered a medical incident related to his exertion in the heat and other medical issues he was suffering at the time and Jack, mid-scrimmaging, was observant enough to notice it and call attention to it. The early detection may have made all the difference in the world.

Brody Calhoun is an example of a star HS player who is very likely to play in college but at what competitive level we aren’t in a position to accurately forecast. You see, there is a possibility Calhoun isn’t done growing so to know at what college level he may play we would have to speculate how his frame finishes. We just aren’t in a position to know. Calhoun’s on field production is “off the charts” as the rising junior has made close to 160-career tackles and hasn’t taken his first 11th-grade class yet. We are approaching “Dead Period” so get ready. Not much lies on the other side of “Dead Period” apart from two preseason scrimmages and opening night. We’re ready. We hope you are. De’André Watkins is a guy coming off his sophomore season which saw him get plenty of PT for a young guy laboring on a 6A roster. We believe the Colonels will be way more formidable in ’24 then they were at any time in ’23. Tristin Dillard came out of Middle School ranked by most the pundits among the top three RBs in Kentucky’s 2027 graduating class. Dillard had a solid freshman season but has transferred to 6A, first district, Christian County and looks to us to be set for take off. The Colonels will be vastly improved in ’24 from the team which competed in ’23. Players like Dillard are the reason why. Enjoy the article. Friday Night Fletch.

Leron Jackson played for the worst team in 5A and perhaps all of Kentucky. The Raiders played 11-games and got drilled 11-times. The Raiders “high water” mark for the year was dropping a game to Trimble County on September 22 by three TDs. That doesn’t mean Keith May doesn’t have some great players in the “hopper.” Matter of fact, Coach May may (pardon the pun) be developing ’27’s premier LB and perhaps its best player at any position.
