We are going to look at this special three (3) phase contributor and whether he can take the Braves back to Lexington to get another bite at the apple. The high school game is a game where we don’t see a ton of 6’5,” 225-pound lineman, but we are generally excited when we do. This is a kid who excelled, this offseason, at powerlifting and that is generally a very good sign. It is the game for the “Chapter 16” type kids and some of your more traditional types; the Football Playing Jesses out there. Gavin Johnson and Mikey Hager are simply two of the best all-around football players in the KHSAA regardless of classification. These two guys will meet on October 25, 2025 in Hazard, Kentucky and there figures to be plenty on the line. North Hopkins is big, fast, mobile, strong, powerful, and explosive all over the field on both sides of the scrimmage line. This is especially true upfront offensively. “The Bigs” don’t ever get enough credit in our humble opinion. Credit or no credit, North figures to have a RB in the thick of a “Mr. Football” race in 2025. To get there, or to get where the team wants to go, the Maroons will rely heavily (pardon the pun) on the five or six guys upfront. Enjoy this feature.

South Warren has some of the best talent rostered anywhere in the KHSAA at any level of competition. This coming year should be no different. The Spartans are 6A, instead of 5A, this season but the argument can be made the trek through 5A on the western end of the commonwealth is at least as daunting as 6A if not a little mores (Louisville excluded). Either way, this Malik Butler is the real-freaking deal. Enjoy this feature about a kid we featured before when he was still playing football at Franklin-Simpson. This kid can do it.

We started this journey we call Kentucky Prep Gridiron reporting mainly on middle school players. When our initial middle school stars matriculated to high school, we came with them. We don’t cover middle school football as much as we once did but we do cover it. Today, we report on a kid who may be the best 8th-grade QB in the commonwealth of Kentucky. He is darn sure athletic. He is darn sure well developed with room for quite a bit more anatomical development. I got a call one time from a kid who had signed with Princeton. Princeton, like Brown, is an Ivy League school, or the elite of the elite as this country has historically thought of the Ivy League. Well anyway this kid was voicing some displeasure about Princeton’s having a bad season. My response…”Are you kidding me, son? You’re going to Princeton. Who cares if you go 0-40 while there? You’re still getting a degree from Princeton.” You get the point. Football is a tool to a better life if you’re smart about it.
