We believe 5A may be a repeat of last year’s title game in 5A. Both Bowling Green and Cooper have most of their primetime guys returning. Owensboro, Southwestern, and Scott County could all three challenge. Enjoy the look at 5A, Friday Night Fletch.
Not all future stars got varsity run the year prior. This is even more true of young guys on 5A finalists who were, themselves, freshmen. We have young Carson Clark to feature today. While we can’t really report on anything he did (at the varsity level) in ’23; that doesn’t mean he won’t breakout in ’24. Matter of fact, we wouldn’t bet against him. Enjoy the feature. We don’t run across athletes at the high school level who run 4.43-second, 40-yard dashes, 4.01-second pro-agility shuttles, or 6.72-second, three-cone drills. We certainly don’t see too many 37-inch verticals and 9.1-feet broad jumps out of 5’8″ sophomores. When this type dynamic athleticism is encountered it should be featured. So, here you go. We call him “Alexander the Great” and he may not have an empire stretching from the Balkans to the modern-day Pakistan, but the original Alexander didn’t register 19-QB sacks in a single season or wrack up over 1,000-yards receiving. As promised, here are our picks for Saturday’s games. For the teams vying for championships today, and in the words of the great Reba McIntyre, “here’s your one chance, Fancy; don’t let us down.”
I remember a mother telling me when I was coaching that her son was a varsity football player. I told her, “Well Ma’am, he’s playing in a JV game in about a half-hour. If he’s a varsity guy he should stick out like a sore thumb in this JV game.” That is as fair of an indicator as I know. Well, I watched Pavey’s JV film and it appeared obvious to me Pavey is a varsity player. We believe he will show all of us this coming Fall. Enjoy the feature. HB.
There are many, many unknown football players across Kentucky. It is one reason we spend the offseason apprising our readers of where to look for the upcoming Fall heroes. Northern Kentucky is an area we are trying to give more attention as we feel these kids are player about whom we don’t know enough. We hope the Northern Kentucky folks (at least) appreciate our effort. Enjoy this feature about a Northern Kentucky kid who is a fine high-school player with limitless college potential. HB.
