Hence is a guy who is hard to pigeon-hole. Yes, he can play some QB. Yes, he can play WR. Yes, he can play DB. Where should he play? I don’t know, where do you need him? This guy is what all high school rosters would love to have. Hence is a 6’2,” 180-pounder who can be plugged in anywhere. He was called upon to throw a few passes in ’24 and he completed 90% of his passing attempts (9/10). He caught 38-passes for nearly 500-yards and six (6) scores and was third on the team in scoring. Kam Wells is a beast whose frame can virtually finish anywhere. He is strong as a bull, wins the leverage game against about anyone, has tremendous leg kick and explosion, and elite strength and power. Wells will likely have to be deployed “both ways” this coming Fall even though he will be a freshman. We have seen freshmen start at really good programs and acquit themselves very, very well. What will Wells do? We would be surprised if he did anything less than dominate many of his mirrors over the course of his initial campaign. Zai’Vion Meads has been working out with Aspirations Gym this offseason. Aspirations Gym proprietor, Chris Vaughn, has been working out Louisville’s elite athletes for a long time, as long as we have been covering this sport. Vaugh has Meads “looking right.” Meads has exploded the myth the camera adds weight as he looks good live, or on film. Donavon Smith from Barbourville, Kentucky is among the very best the ’27 graduating class has at the LB position anywhere on the eastern end of the commonwealth of Kentucky. Smith is a 6’0,” 210-pounder who hits like a ton of bricks. Smith registered 116-tackles, over his sophomore season, and contributed seven (7) QB-sacks, four (4)-TFLs, 2-FFs, and 2-FRs, one of which he scooped and scored. Knox Central is pleased to have this type talent returning in its defensive second level and we are glad we get to enjoy this cat another two seasons. Donaldson has an interesting motto, and one we whole heartedly support. His motto is “Roam the Field, Never Yield.” Heck yeah, young stud! That is what you want from a guy who is playing DB/some Nickel, and SS. That is what you want from a two-year starter heading into his third year. That is what you, as a coach, definitely want from a senior leader. Things have been looking up for the Doss Dragons. They were 7-4 a year ago and dropped a four-pointer to Spencer County in the opening round of the playoffs. Lots of weapons return. We like Doss heading into the race for the District 3 crown. You know we usually give this award to a player who counts among his team’s, district’s, region’s or even the Bluegrass’ very best at his position. Everyone has to start somewhere and sometimes a kid who gets five (5) games of varsity run on one of 5A’s more stacked rosters is deserving of some recognition and some world famous, all-beef jerky products. Tripp Setliff is a guy we saw quite a bit from on the Future Stars circuit. He played on the KY Future Stars team in seventh and eighth grade. He is a hulking interior guy who has done quite a bit of work on his feet, speed, spacial quicks, and explosion. He is rounding into a top-flight interior OL in the KY/WV area and is at Huntington High presently. Could we see this kid migrate down south to play for a Kentucky High School? Well, you know anything is possible and very similar like moves have been before tried and successfully. Enjoy this feature.
