Central knows it has to put the North game in the rear view and brace for challenges ahead
I am sure Central would love to lie around and lick its wounds but there isn’t any time for that. Central has a trip to Oak Grove and they aren’t going for the casinos. Central is visiting Fryar Stadium to play a Falcon squad who moved some personnel around and looked altogether different than the team which dropped consecutive games to Clarksville powers, Northwest High and the Academy. Central has KCD coming to Morton’s Gap next week and Russellville to follow, so there is plenty of opportunity to make a statement the entire commonwealth will both hear and read. First things first, let’s go on the road and take care of business.

Morton’s Gap, KY: Here’s the good news coming out of the short end of a 72-14 score with cross town rival, Madisonville North Hopkins. It doesn’t appear the injury suffered by Sylas Gunn, among the ’26 class’s best football players across Kentucky, will result in his missing any game time. Thank the Lord for that!

Aside from that, the “good news” was sparse. There were some notable performances from the North Hopkins game worthy of mention.
Gunn threw for 22-yards, ran for 53 yards and a score, scored eight (TD and a two-pointer) of the team’s 14-points, while tying for the lead with 8-stops an a TFL. Gunn has, again, bedazzled us with his versatility and efficiency and reinforced the fact he is among the better football players the program has ever enjoyed.
Freshman Neilan Bruce (’29) threw for 45 yards, rushed for 10-yards, and recovered a fumble. That isn’t a bad piece of work for a freshman who was thrust into action owing largely to the team’s leader succumbing to injury.
Kamran Harrison (’26) was credited with 8-stops and a TFL, as was Isaac McKnight (’27, 8-stops). Khristian Scott (’26) had 5-tackles and a TFL. Senior, Isac Earl (’26) scored the “other TD” rushing. Earl carried it seven (7) times for 39-yards on the evening.
Now, let's turn our attention to the Falcons from Fort Campbell High School...
Next up is Fort Campbell and the Falcons reslotted some personnel and came out and performed much better in the Army Bowl against Fort Knox than it had against either Northwest High (Clarksville, TN) or Clarksville Academy. The Falcons are coming off a 55-18 victory, its 33rd victory in a series which has 49-installments, against Fort Knox.
This victory came just in the nick of time for the Falcons who have been playing much better football under Henry Mitchell than the coach who preceded him. Remember last year? The Falcons were able to entertain AND OVERCOME North Hopkins in the upset of a lifetime.
This past week’s win was Fort Campbell’s fourth straight win in the “Army Bowl” series. Keshawn Dixon (’26) carried the football 19-times for 230-yards and 5-TDs. JP Perryman (’26) had five (5) catches for 55-yards and a pair of scores.
Perryman, playing both ways, picked a pair of passes defensively. One of these two picks Perryman returned to the Fort Knox five-yard line at a key moment in the game.
Our Lasaters Player of the Week this week for the Fort was Tanner Walters (’28). Walters completed 70% of his passing attempts and threw for three (3) TDs.
Levi Kruse (’27) caught a 32-yarder for one of the three scores through the air.
Fort Knox and Fort Campbell both left the field 1-2 on the season. Fort Campbell views this game with Central as an outstanding chance of evening its record, and righting its ship, at 2-2.
KPGFootball says: This game is a toss-up, particularly with the Storm traveling as opposed to hosting. We believe the Storm is six-points better than the Falcons but will take the Storm on the road by three (3).
If Central can beat the Falcons and withstand KCD they may go on a bit of a run this season…
Friday Night Fletch
Fort Campbell is a team which Central should beat, on paper at least. Of course, the last time we checked, these games weren’t played on paper, they are played on grass.
Fort Campbell passes the “eye test” and has some impressive looking skill guys, Perryman and Dixon particularly. Central will have to counter this with good, old-fashioned blunt force trauma along its lines of scrimmage.
The Storm needs the fans to pick them up after their recent stumble. We need to get on the road and travel to Oak Grove, Kentucky in droves and cheer on our team.
The team has to show up. So do the fans! See you at the game.
This is Friday Night Fletch, reporting for KPGFootball, reminding you to PLAY THROUGH THE WHISTLE!
