Storm Warning: Aaron Wells, ’27 OL/DL, is itching to prove he belongs on the first string @KatherineL58069, @LasatersCoffee, @minguabeefjerky, @bigassfans, @khsaafootball, @KyHighFootball, @HopkinsCentral, @_CoachManning, @evans02_mike

Storm Warning

’27 two way lineman will be called upon to anchor the fronts on both sides of the scrimmage line

Aaron Wells is a guy who played sparingly on “Friday Nights” over his sophomore season. However, he has put in the offseason work and his finish at the “Kentucky Powerlifting Meet” last spring has informed onlookers he will be a player with whom to deal as the Storm prepares for the ’25 season. Good football begins upfront. Coach Manning tells us he believes this Wells kid is ready for two-way, line of scrimmage deployment.

Morton’s Gap, KY: We have been featuring the offensive line over the past several weeks. Wells, though primarily thought of as a NG along the defensive front, will be counted on heavily (pardon the pun) for OL snaps this coming season.

For the Storm to be good enough on offense as it has to be for the program to continue its progression, the Storm will have to get the run box blocked sufficiently to enable sizable ground gains. Players upfront like Aaron Wells will be paramount to that expectation.

Wells played in one varsity game for the Storm in 2024. Though only appearing in the one game, it isn’t as if Wells didn’t contribute.

Wells registered a tackle. That is noteworthy as the vast majority of players who play a single game fail to record any stats.

Wells isn’t a small player. Wells is 6’3,” and weighs 330 pounds.

powerlifters

Wells has consistently bench pressed in the 305-pound range though this “official” lift at the KY Powerlifting meet was 290. Wells finished third in the Kentucky Powerlifting competition in the “Super Heavyweight” classification.

Wells deadlifts, or “pulls” 455-pounds. In case you were wondering, Wells is miles ahead of where most ’27 lineman are strength-wise, power-wise, and even explosively.

Not a ton of 305-pound pressers and 455-pound pullers riding anyone’s bench in KHSAA football. This kid has put in the offseason work to find the field. It will be difficult to get him off the playing surface in 2025.

Wells will be ‘moving into a role’ Manning tells us

Friday Night Fletch

Coach Manning tells KPGFootball, Wells “…will be moving into a role” this coming season, Wells’ junior year. That role may include two-way, line of scrimmage deployment. Matter of fact, that schedule of PT for Wells is close to certain.

Any football aficionado will tell you, be he either coach, media member, or just a fanatic, that Friday Night Stardom begins in the offseason. Wells’s trek to the first string, and the top of the play depth chart, began right there; on the bench press, in the squat rack, etc.

The Storm has put in an offseason sure to develop some dependable stars on whom to rely under the glare of the Friday Night Lights. Now the season is here, it is time to put the hay up in the loft.

Wells will certainly be one of those guys pitching in, if you catch the pun. We know this because of how he played when he got his chance a year ago.

Wells played the heck out of a small role last season.
