This Week's Independence Bank Revolutionary Player of the Bank is...

There is no better time than the present to anoint another Independence Bank player of the week. Independence Bank has a goal of achieving everyday excellence, and this week we are focusing on a player whose performance exceeded both the Tigers’ and the Murray, Kentucky community’s expectations. We are focusing on the class of 2019, RB/WR/LB, Mark Thompson, from Murray, Kentucky right down the road from the Independence Bank branch located at 507 North 12th Street in downtown Murray.

We highlighted Chase Merriss last week and deservedly as he had quite the year. However, when it comes to the overall value to the Murray High School football team, Mark Thompson was quite the stat stuffer for last year’s outfit. He may not have led the team in rushing or rushing TDs, but he was quite formidable in both in 2017, as the rising senior, 2019 prospect, rushed for 850 yards in only 97 carries with 11 rushing TDs. Anytime a player, like Thompson in 2017, averages 8.763 yards a carry, inevitably, some will remark he should have carried it more. Hard to argue with that logic, especially in light of Thompson‘s scoring a rushing TD every 8.818 times he got an opportunity to run the football from scrimmage. He caught 19 passes for 226 yards receiving with 4 TD receptions. Thompson on the year was second on the team in scored points with 90 for last year’s Tigers. When you mix all of that in with his ability to also come over and align at RB and his being able to play LB on defense, it makes Thompson one of those players who just does nothing other than make the team for whom he plays better.
