If there is a matter on which we would readily wager it is whether or not Bryson Ford will be a superstar at the HS level. Ford rendered an all-state, caliber performance over his freshman season playing on a roster in its last year of existence for a high school which is being closed at year’s end and subsumed into a conglomerate high school which figures to have the largest enrollment in KY among public high schools. Ford led the team in tackles as a freshman and was among the leaders in TFLs. That TFLs stat is impressive as getting freshman to play “down hill” is no easy tack. Enjoy this look at a players everyone around western KY seems to be discussing, including us.

If you grew up in the 80s, you were familiar with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s line from the movie, “Terminator,” “I’ll be back.” That line has been spoofed and repeated, ad nauseam. Well it is applicable here. This ’27 prospect, Jude McWhorter, for North Laurel will be back; and, if he replicates his ’25 performance over the course of 2026, may find himself smack-dab, in the middle of a “Mr. Football” race. Steven Nelson is doing a fine job with the program and the Jaguar faithful have never seen its prospects appear much rosier than right now. Enjoy the feature.

We are very pleased to welcome Lasaters Coffee & Tea to our growing family of advertisers. The Kelley family has a very long history in the local football industry and several of the Kelleys have had their numbers retired owing to their familial history of playing excellence. Football has been very good to their family and they look for ways to give back to this very special community. We have covered this game, daily, 24/7, 365, since April of 2015. In all that time, there have been players who have hit us dead in the heart strings. When these guys have moved on to college football or out into the “real world,” it was as if a cherished member of the family had passed along to receive his ultimate reward. Sylas Gunn will be one of those for us. We started covering him in middle school at Webster County. We count ourselves fortunate to have been along for the ride through the transfer to Hopkins County Central, his rise to the varsity roster, and his ultimately becoming one of Central’s greatest, all-time, all-around football players. Along the way we have seen him become one of the KHSAA’s all-around, all-time football players. It has been a privilege, son.

Colin Daniels and his Mustangs have a monster match-up this eventing at the Teal Field in Goshen, KY. Head Football Coach, Brock Roberts, will take on the hot as heck-fire, Atherton Rebels, and its enigmatic, young coach, Anthony White. The two teams are both 8-1 with 5A Atherton enjoying the larger of the two enrollments. The one promises to e epic and the commonwealth’s “Touchdown Leader,” Colin Daniels will figure prominently in the eventual outcome. We get to travel to Munfordville and play the Hart County Raiders this coming weekend. That is a very hard place to have to play and the Raiders (8-2) are a very well coached (Chad Griffin), and red hot team. The Raiders opened the year with a 4-point loss to Logan County (4A, 8-2) in Russellville. That should tell you something about the talent we will be playing in round one. Still, we have some pieces which might well trouble the Raiders; and, where two teams enter a football field, either of them may emerge, on any give night, the victor. We need this game and are hoping our seniors can rise up and deliver it. Let’s get ready to car-pool to Murray, KY and cheer our boys onto victory. First read this…it will get you prepared for the road ahead.

In 1973, country artist Johnny Russell released a classic song about rednecks, white sox, and blue ribbon beer. The “blue ribbon beer” Mr. Russell was referencing in the song written by Wayland Holyfield and Bob McDill was Pabst Blue Ribbon. We don’t know whether Nathan Pabst is descended from the Frederick Pabst for whom the beer was named but we do know the penchant Nathan Pabst has for rendering on the football field a blue ribbon performance. Well, Nathan rendered such a performance last Friday Night against Erlanger, KY’s St. Henry’s. St. Henry’s is new to KHSAA football.
