We were watching Breathitt and Hazard play last Friday night on the Bluegrass Sports Nation. What stood out to us was the intricate way in which Coach Chandler and his crew utilized screens to chunk off yardage. There was one screen in particular where the ball was rifled to Gavin Johnson and he ran away from Breathitt’s back-third like they were being run in a plowed field. Talk about your “separation speed,” Johnson was showing it off and then some. The fact of the matter, as we approach mid-season, Gavin Johnson has amply demonstrated his being as good a multi-phase athlete as there is anywhere in Kentucky at the small school level (1A, 2A, and 3A).
