England once had an empire so fast the sun never set on it. This article is NOT about that England, it is about the Josiah England who may be the best returning RB/Corner in the KHSAA’s ’27 graduating class. Both Englands are thought of as leaders and noted for excellent performance. In this feature we will take a look at a player who’s junior season was cut short by injury but who showed us, as a sophomore, exactly of what he was capable. England is among the more coveted prospects in his graduating class and a bone fide, D-1 prospect. It will be entirely interesting to see how far he can take this Mayfield club provided he stays healthy in ’26. Enjoy the feature.

I once heard having an accomplished place kicker in the fold likened to finding a $20.00 bill in your dry cleaning. You may not know you even need $20.00 but it comes in handy when you are both hungry and thirsty and you find what you need just sitting in your pocket. Jayden Couch is not just an accomplished placekicker who converted just under 80% of his PATs and was 100% on FGs but he is a freshman to boot. It must be something to realize your kicking game is so competently handled and looks to remain so for the foreseeable future. Congratulations to Jayden Couch for being our ‘Wake Up and Smell the Coffee (or Tea)’ Player of the Week from Lasaters Coffee & Tea where you are more than served, you are loved!

We continue on with our offseason coverage not really discussing players of the week so much as discussing featured players and prospects. Cooper Adams is a kid with a ton of tough who played eight games of varsity run as a freshman and is only going to improve as he fills out and develops. Adams is an accomplished wrestler who was a Kentucky champion in middle school and already enjoying success as a varsity grappler on the high school level. Adams is the kind of kid coaches want to coach and, in the end, that may be the finest compliment which can be paid to him. Enjoy the feature.

Aiden Jesse comes from a Hopkinsville family which knows a thing or two about the receiver position. Father, Maurice, was a star WR in his day playing for the Hoptown Tigers. Son, Reece Jesse, set several all-time, receiving records in his day out wide for the Tigers. Little brother, Aiden Jesse, has been a terror and a star for the last edition of the Hoptown Tigers football team to ever take a playing field. You boys will be missed, know that! We just couldn’t say goodbye without one final tip of the hat to what was an incredible performance by Aiden Reece in the second round of the 6A, KHSAA football playoffs and the last game of football the Hoptown Tigers will ever play. Well done, young man.

Madisonville North Hopkins rebounded from consecutive losses to puff Warren Central’s magic Dragons, 52-12, this past Thursday evening. The Maroons had nearly 400 yards of total offense and Mr. Football candidate, Markezz Hightower, chipped in 173-yards of his own. Ryder Sandidge contributed 93-rushing yards and a pair of TDs. Parker Rudolph (’26) is a RB prospect who has the speed, power, and explosion (twitch) to play free or strong safety at the next level too. He can return kicks, punts, work the slot catching the ball, and use his backend separation speed and spacial quicks to gain a ton of after contact yardage. In the world of Kentucky high school football, a world about which we are undoubtedly familiar, the Trinity/St. Xavier game is often referred to as “The Game.” It is so big neither on campus stadium is viewed as sufficient to host the event. This is why it gets annually played at the stadium which hosts University of Louisville football games instead. This year neither team has lost a game to a Kentucky high school. That changes this weekend. We have taken a deep dive into the matchup, done our homework/research, and have forecast a winner. Let’s see how closely we get this or if we miss altogether. Zai’Vion Meads has been working out with Aspirations Gym this offseason. Aspirations Gym proprietor, Chris Vaughn, has been working out Louisville’s elite athletes for a long time, as long as we have been covering this sport. Vaugh has Meads “looking right.” Meads has exploded the myth the camera adds weight as he looks good live, or on film. Today, we award this prestigious, weekly distinction to one of the Derby City’s better DL prospects playing for one of Louisville’s deeper and most talented rosters.
