Muhlenberg at Madisonville North Hopkins was a heck of a Thursday night game in Madisonville, KY. Both teams entered the night at 5-1 and the game was a back and forth affair for over three of the four quarters. The problem arose when a couple breaks went against Muhlenberg in the 4th quarter and the team just sort of let down, sort of surrendered. That is the next step for the Mustangs; finishing games. The Mustangs have got to learn how to finish games where the final margin is more a reflection of the game and the degree to which the game was competitive. The final Thursday night was 48-14. Credit the Maroons for carrying the fight to the Mustangs for the full 48-minutes. The game was a bit more competitive than the final score would indicate. Enjoy the feature.

Nicholas County is having a fantastic season in spite of last night’s set-back. The Bluejackets are 7-1 with Raceland upcoming before finishing with Bath County and are having a fine season. The last time the Bluejackets were this formidable may have been one of Ben Pumphrey’s teams. Perhaps it was a team the great Emery Clark, a.k.a. “Little E,” appeared on its roster before Clark went on to star for UK’s Wildcats. Who knows? All we know is Simon Clouse has it going on right now, and with assistant coaches on staff like the great Jon Collins, Robert “Hop” Hopson, and Greg Letcher who is to say when it will end? Enjoy the ride Bluejacket fans! These days don’t come around too often.

I think the world of Dan Goble. I am also mindful of the responsibility of this online magazine to be the recorders of KHSAA football history. I don’t know why the job has fallen to us, I just know that it has. That is why when I got a call from Coach Goble asking me to feature a former coach who meant the world to him, I was eager to comply with the request. From that phone call, this article materialized. I would like to thank my mother, and the DAR, for contributing to this piece. We have resurrected the story of a former great we were required to rescue from the dustbin of history, soon to be forgotten forever. Thank Goodness we got to it before it was gone. Enjoy this article.
