You can’t coach height. You can’t coach length. There are measurements and characteristics or traits the Good Lord bequeaths you or doesn’t. Let’s just call John Paul Carrico amply blessed. Carrico is a ’28 lineman playing for an elite 2A program which seems yearly in the chase for a title. The Aces will entertain Beechwood’s Tigers and that is a tough draw for any team this late in November. Carrico is 6’8,” 295-pounds with an 80-inch reach and 35-inch arms. He also has anywhere from a 3.75 to a 4.0 GPA and his “dance card” is filling up fast. If you grew up in the 80s, you were familiar with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s line from the movie, “Terminator,” “I’ll be back.” That line has been spoofed and repeated, ad nauseam. Well it is applicable here. This ’27 prospect, Jude McWhorter, for North Laurel will be back; and, if he replicates his ’25 performance over the course of 2026, may find himself smack-dab, in the middle of a “Mr. Football” race. Steven Nelson is doing a fine job with the program and the Jaguar faithful have never seen its prospects appear much rosier than right now. Enjoy the feature.

We get to travel to Munfordville and play the Hart County Raiders this coming weekend. That is a very hard place to have to play and the Raiders (8-2) are a very well coached (Chad Griffin), and red hot team. The Raiders opened the year with a 4-point loss to Logan County (4A, 8-2) in Russellville. That should tell you something about the talent we will be playing in round one. Still, we have some pieces which might well trouble the Raiders; and, where two teams enter a football field, either of them may emerge, on any give night, the victor. We need this game and are hoping our seniors can rise up and deliver it. Let’s get ready to car-pool to Murray, KY and cheer our boys onto victory. The Storm will close with Murray High (7-0), and then Crittenden County (4-3). It would be nice to slip on Murray and catch them looking ahead to 6-2 Caldwell, but hard to count on that. Regardless, you have to take teams one at a time. Murray High team presents an opportunity to play an opponent who may out-talent us a bit but who can have a bad night as easily as the next guy. We need this game and are hoping our seniors can rise up and deliver it. Let’s get ready to car-pool to Murray, KY and cheer our boys onto victory. We are over half way through (6-8 games in) and bracing for the stretch run before the playoffs and many of these guys are doing exactly what we forecast they would be doing.
