The Dog Pound: Could Hazard be even better than we forecasted a couple months ago? @minguabeefjerky, @coach_chandler, @bigassfans, @khsaafootball, @KyHighFootball, @Gjohnson1418,

We almost never know what to make of transfers. It seems, more and more, teams are picking up transfers and it becomes difficult to track. Our policy has always been not to comment on transfers until the young men have been cleared to play. Well, the Hazard Bulldogs picked up three huge transfers and all three have been cleared for play. What does it all mean. Hazard already boasts one of the finest and more talented rosters in the KHSAA 1A classification. Well, we think it means Hazard may be even better than we predicted in June. Enjoy the article.

Jack Long, ’27 LB/Rover is the @minguabeefjerky Protein-packed Performer of the Week @CountyColonels, @HopHighTigers, @KatherineL58069,  @bigassfans, @khsaafootball, @KyHighFootball,

August 13, 2025 Fletcher Long 0

Jack Long is a kid we weren’t sure would get cleared to play the coming season. As it turns out, he got cleared by provided he wears a helmet specifically designed to avoid head trauma, limit his contact through the week, and be permitted to wear a concussion cap during KHSAA games. As it turns out, Jack’s rejoining the team was important for reasons other than football. One of Jack’s coaches suffered a medical incident related to his exertion in the heat and other medical issues he was suffering at the time and Jack, mid-scrimmaging, was observant enough to notice it and call attention to it. The early detection may have made all the difference in the world.

We are very pleased to welcome Lasaters Coffee & Tea to our growing family of advertisers. The Kelley family has a very long history in the local football industry and several of the Kelleys have had their numbers retired owing to their familial history of playing excellence. Football has been very good to their family and they look for ways to give back to this very special community. Lasaters is a place one goes to get caffeinated and motivated and couldn’t we all use a bit more of that invigoration in our daily routines. Get by one (1) of our four (4) Christian County, Kentucky locations and enjoy the roasted flavor of a hot cup of warmth and love.

We get requests more frequently than you might think. However, there are requests and then there are requests from legendary football coaches like Mike Holcomb. I am sorry and this might not be fair but a request from Holcomb is going to carry a little more weight around KPGFootball than a requested from Boo-Boo’s mom. If you don’t know who “Boo-Boo” is, you need to read Sam Harp and my book. Anyway, Holcomb asked us to feature Hubert Broaddus and we called on historian, John Lovell to help us out with the assignment. Thank God for John Lovell. Enjoy the feature.

Abreyan (Abe) Fletcher has been straight Fletchin’ heading into his senior year at Union County @Abefletcher6, @55CoachJohns, @Willemmcpeake3, @KatherineL58069, @LasatersCoffee, @minguabeefjerky, @bigassfans, @khsaafootball, @KyHighFootball

William Shakespeare once mused “What’s in a name?” Well there is something in a name and as a fellow “Fletcher” I would profess Union County’s Abreyan “Abe” Fletcher is doing more with the name than I ever did. We are going to look at this special three (3) phase contributor and whether he can take the Braves back to Lexington to get another bite at the apple. Along the way, we may have a little fun with the etymology of the name the two of us share. Enjoy the feature.

We identified John Luke Minner as one of the best LBs in the KHSAA in 2024. That is why he made first team All-State on our Big Ass Fan’s Small School team. Coming into ’25 he figures to be on the list again provided he performs commensurate to how he performed a year ago. He has committed to play collegiately at Brown University in the Ivy Leagues. That is a Division I ride to one of the country’s most prestigious schools. If catching a ride to the Ivy Leagues isn’t prize worthy, we aren’t sure we know what is. Enjoy this feature and let’s keep it comfortable out there, Kentucky, while you allow us to help out in that regard.

Storm Warning: Connor Miles (’28 two-way lineman) is a man with many talents, many skills and entering the season healthy @HopkinsCentral, @_CoachManning, @minguabeefjerky, @bigassfans, @khsaafootball, @KyHighFootball

August 7, 2025 Fletcher Long 0

The high school game is a game where we don’t see a ton of 6’5,” 225-pound lineman, but we are generally excited when we do. This is a kid who excelled, this offseason, at powerlifting and that is generally a very good sign. It is the game for the “Chapter 16” type kids and some of your more traditional types; the Football Playing Jesses out there. If these referenced are unfamiliar to you, you need to read Sam Harp and my book, “Football 101: Boo-Boo’s a Quarterback.” There is a link at the bottom of this article, will take you right to where you can order. It is just $9.99 on “Kindle,” best ten bucks you will ever spend. Connor Miles will help anchor the Storm front this coming year. He appears well equipped to handle the assignment. Enjoy the feature.

These two guys will meet on October 25, 2025 in Hazard, Kentucky and there figures to be plenty on the line. Enjoy this look at two guys who have both worked tirelessly and who appear peerless (except for the other) in their district, their region, even their classification.

Carson Bugg has been blessed by nature. He has the length major college coaches covet and the height and mass preferred for where he projects. Can’t get much better than that in life, huh? Yessir, it certainly is a “Bugg’s life,” this game of football. Come and read this feature about one of the more imposing linemen playing high school football today in the commonwealth of Kentucky. Enjoy this feature on a kid very deserving of some of the world’s finest beef jerky products and don’t forget to #SavorTheFlavor out there in Versailles, KY.
