Zai’Vion Meads has been working out with Aspirations Gym this offseason. Aspirations Gym proprietor, Chris Vaughn, has been working out Louisville’s elite athletes for a long time, as long as we have been covering this sport. Vaugh has Meads “looking right.” Meads has exploded the myth the camera adds weight as he looks good live, or on film. Today, we award this prestigious, weekly distinction to one of the Derby City’s better DL prospects playing for one of Louisville’s deeper and most talented rosters. Donavon Smith from Barbourville, Kentucky is among the very best the ’27 graduating class has at the LB position anywhere on the eastern end of the commonwealth of Kentucky. Smith is a 6’0,” 210-pounder who hits like a ton of bricks. Smith registered 116-tackles, over his sophomore season, and contributed seven (7) QB-sacks, four (4)-TFLs, 2-FFs, and 2-FRs, one of which he scooped and scored. Knox Central is pleased to have this type talent returning in its defensive second level and we are glad we get to enjoy this cat another two seasons. Enjoy this feature about a kid whose performance made the unbearable heat a tad more bearable and who hopes his performance brings comfort to the home fans around Knox County, KY this upcoming Fall. I know we just featured this kid, but it isn’t uncommon for us to feature a kid and turn immediately around and send him some protein. Check the historical record. it has been before done. This kid’s achievements in the weight room alone, and the hard work he has put in during his off-seasons, is enough to warrant this type recognition. Larry Irvin is called “PeeWee.” That isn’t a name which opponents of the Bruins call Irvin. His performance at times in ’24, as a junior, was down right major league. Irvin turned it on when the playoffs began and led his team past Male High in round two in overtime. One doesn’t get much more versatile than Fort Campbell’s JaCaryous “JP” Perryman. Last season, as a junior (’26), Perryman rushed for 603-yards, housed seven (7)-TDs rushing, completed 62-passes for 912-yards and 13-TDs, caught four (4) passes for 62-yards and a TD, housed eight two-pointers, registered 20-tackles, forced two fumbles, recovered one, and picked a pair of passes for 5-IRNYs. Say all of that three times really fast. The guy is a fantastic athlete who competes in multiple sports for his high school which competed at a high level a year ago in winning half its games. There are some really outstanding freshmen football players who got a ton of reps during the ’24 season. There was even a ’28 kid who got 13-games of run behind the best OL unit in Kentucky at any classification. LCA’s Matthew Montgomery is a 6’0,” 230-pound guy with a 275-pound bench, a 405-pound squat, and a penchant for flattening defenders unfortunate enough to get in his pulling trajectory on traps and pulls.
