The @BigAssFans, Small School (1A, 2A, & 3A) All-State Football Team

We will start out this all-state team with an admonition with which we begin every team we have ever published. We will miss on some guys. It is just important to note that your son not making out team doesn’t mean he wasn’t an all-state caliber player. Also, we expressly reserve the right to re-enter the team, even after it is published, and add worthy players who may have been missed or accidentally omitted. That being said, our small and large school All-State football teams, sponsored by Big Ass Fans, are the most expansive and complete teams in the business. This team here, and the coaches’s team published by the Courier Journal, are the only two legitimate teams in existence and we believe our team to be much more complete and legitimate than even theirs. Congratulations to the players who made the team and congratulations to the wonderful world of Kentucky high school football for providing us with the endless thrills and discussions we net from our following this, the greatest game on earth.

Many people believe Jacob Savage is Kentucky’s best all-around, high school football player. Indiana’s Curt Cignetti would agree, that is why he offered and accepted the commitment from the North Kentucky superstar. Savage has had a tremendous career contributing to multiple phases of the Ryle Raiders’s attack. This kid has won the Paul Hornung Award given annually to the commonwealth’s very best player. Will he double up and win Mr. Football too? You know there is some precedent for that occurring. Enjoy this look at Ryle’s Jacob Savage, a player who couldn’t have had a better surname for the sport he was playing.

You can’t coach height. You can’t coach length. There are measurements and characteristics or traits the Good Lord bequeaths you or doesn’t. Let’s just call John Paul Carrico amply blessed. Carrico is a ’28 lineman playing for an elite 2A program which seems yearly in the chase for a title. The Aces will entertain Beechwood’s Tigers and that is a tough draw for any team this late in November. Carrico is 6’8,” 295-pounds with an 80-inch reach and 35-inch arms. He also has anywhere from a 3.75 to a 4.0 GPA and his “dance card” is filling up fast. Colin Daniels and his Mustangs have a monster match-up this eventing at the Teal Field in Goshen, KY. Head Football Coach, Brock Roberts, will take on the hot as heck-fire, Atherton Rebels, and its enigmatic, young coach, Anthony White. The two teams are both 8-1 with 5A Atherton enjoying the larger of the two enrollments. The one promises to e epic and the commonwealth’s “Touchdown Leader,” Colin Daniels will figure prominently in the eventual outcome. In 1973, country artist Johnny Russell released a classic song about rednecks, white sox, and blue ribbon beer. The “blue ribbon beer” Mr. Russell was referencing in the song written by Wayland Holyfield and Bob McDill was Pabst Blue Ribbon. We don’t know whether Nathan Pabst is descended from the Frederick Pabst for whom the beer was named but we do know the penchant Nathan Pabst has for rendering on the football field a blue ribbon performance. Well, Nathan rendered such a performance last Friday Night against Erlanger, KY’s St. Henry’s. St. Henry’s is new to KHSAA football. The military schools have gotten notification they are being exempted from the federal shutdown in recognition of extracurricular activities being “…an important part of our military-connected students’ school experience.” Man, are we glad of that. There is something in the water around Bell County which makes 5’9,” 205-pound RBs who run for a bigilloin yards grow on trees. Remember Daniel Thomas who won the coveted “Mr. Football” Award a few years ago? Coach Hilton has him another tough as nails, unassuming looking thoroughbred, running rough-shod over defenses again in ’25. His name is Kaleb Miller, he is 5’9,” 205-pound RB who gained 2,100 yards as a junior and was selected to the All-State, first team. Miller is at it again, as he already is averaging over 155-yards a game through his first two and leading the ball club with 34-points comprised of five (5) rushing TDs and a pair of two-pointers. Bell County is off to a fast start and has played (already) two of the more talented teams it will face this year on the road at Campbellsville and on the road at Perry County Central, winning both. This is a super freak athlete from the Appalachia mountains. His father, an attorney in Hazard, Kentucky, told us his vertical is slightly over 43-inches and that Gavin won’t stop till it tops 45. What that means is his reported 40-time of 4.58-seconds isn’t even close. Johnson is much, much faster than that! This kid is really a physical specimen and should be firmly in the “Mr. Football” race his senior year in spite of his playing 1A football. We have said this many times. There are good teams and bad teams in the KHSAA and they span all six (6) of Kentucky’s classifications. Enjoy this feature and let’s keep it comfortable out there, Kentucky.
