We get requests more frequently than you might think. However, there are requests and then there are requests from legendary football coaches like Mike Holcomb. I am sorry and this might not be fair but a request from Holcomb is going to carry a little more weight around KPGFootball than a requested from Boo-Boo’s mom. We identified John Luke Minner as one of the best LBs in the KHSAA in 2024. That is why he made first team All-State on our Big Ass Fan’s Small School team. Coming into ’25 he figures to be on the list again provided he performs commensurate to how he performed a year ago. He has committed to play collegiately at Brown University in the Ivy Leagues. That is a Division I ride to one of the country’s most prestigious schools. If catching a ride to the Ivy Leagues isn’t prize worthy, we aren’t sure we know what is. The high school game is a game where we don’t see a ton of 6’5,” 225-pound lineman, but we are generally excited when we do. This is a kid who excelled, this offseason, at powerlifting and that is generally a very good sign. North Hopkins is big, fast, mobile, strong, powerful, and explosive all over the field on both sides of the scrimmage line. This is especially true upfront offensively. “The Bigs” don’t ever get enough credit in our humble opinion. Credit or no credit, North figures to have a RB in the thick of a “Mr. Football” race in 2025. We started this journey we call Kentucky Prep Gridiron reporting mainly on middle school players. When our initial middle school stars matriculated to high school, we came with them. We don’t cover middle school football as much as we once did but we do cover it. Today, we report on a kid who may be the best 8th-grade QB in the commonwealth of Kentucky. He is darn sure athletic. I got a call one time from a kid who had signed with Princeton. Princeton, like Brown, is an Ivy League school, or the elite of the elite as this country has historically thought of the Ivy League. Well anyway this kid was voicing some displeasure about Princeton’s having a bad season. My response…”Are you kidding me, son? You’re going to Princeton. Who cares if you go 0-40 while there? You’re still getting a degree from Princeton.” You get the point. Football is a tool to a better life if you’re smart about it.
