Lasaters says ‘Wake up and Smell the Coffee’ on 26’s Kavon Johnson from Hoptown High School; this kid is a tank! @KavonJo70278439, @LasatersCoffee, @minguabeefjerky, @bigassfans, @The_CoachLo, @HopkAthletics, @HopHighTigers

Lasaters...time to wake up and smell the coffee!

’26 two-way lineman has the nickname “Tank” and with good reason

Kavon Johnson is a two year starter for the Tigers on both lines of scrimmage and, at 6’1,” 280-pounds, is a real tank out on the field for the Tigers. Matter of fact his nickname is “Tank” and he fits the name. This kid has been working super hard in the offseason as his 315-pound bench press and 450-pound back squat certainly would indicate. This is a kid who certainly looks to have a “next level” future to us and there are plenty of colleges in the area who seem to agree. With guys like Johnson, their true value to a team and locker room can’t be measured accurately with simple game statistics. If I am going to be in a fight, this is the kid I want with me.

Hopkinsville, KY: Kavon Johnson is a two-way lineman, playing Kentucky 6A football, whose true value is difficult to measure. Johnson is kind of a tank. Matter of fact, that is what his teammates and coaches call him…”The Tank.”

Johnson is 6’1,” and weighs 280-pounds. Johnson bench presses 315-pounds and squats 450. Johnson is a two-year starter for the Tigers and much of the same is expected from the ’26 prospect.

We had a chance to talk with Johnson’s head coach, Dustin Lopez. Lopez sung this kid’s praises to the magazine.

“Johnson is a kid whose true value is difficult to measure,” Lopez told KPGFootball. “Johnson plays with enthusiasm and a viciousness at the point of attack that high school players often lack.”

When asked about his college prospects, Lopez continued, “Heck yeah there is a level for Johnson. Johnson plays his assignment, thinking of the good of the team over his own statistical glory. There is always room on a college roster for guys like Tank.”

Johnson is 6’1,” and weighs 280-pounds. Johnson bench presses three plates (315) and squats a cool 450.

Johnson plays along both fronts for the Tigers. With Johnson up front offensively, the Tigers gained 1,383-yards and 15-TDs on the ground while passing for 1,707-yards and another 19- aerial strikes.

Defensively, Johnson registered 14-tackles in ’24, with one being behind the line of scrimmage. That hardly provides a clear picture of his true value to the Tiger roster.

Mark Twain once described there being three (3) types of lies. Twain said there were lies, darned lies, and then statistics. The point being game statistics hardly give one a full picture.

Allow us to put it this way. If we were going to war and our lives were on the line, Johnson would be the guy we would want in the fox hole.
