The JV run from '22 figures to morph into varsity PT in '23

’26 DE/DT will be hard to keep off the field as the year rolls along

This kid’s frame is getting where colleges want to see it, though 6’1″ is a bit on the short side for DE and 218-pounds is a few biscuits shy of where colleges want DT’s. However, Jack Barker’s 77-inch wingspan indicates to us this kid is likely headed to 6’4 or better.

Kevin Wallace, the famed HFC at Louisville’s St. Xavier High, will tell you our young ’26 DE/DT prospect, Jack Barker, isn’t quite physically there yet. He would be right, of course, but he is gaining on where he needs to be all the time and will get there (we believe) by the time ’23 gets here.

Barker is a 6’1,” 218-pounder who played along the Tigers’ defensive front on JV a year ago. St. X’s JV would beat quite a few varsity units across Kentucky even at the 6A level of competition.

Barker has the bench press up to 200-pounds and his back squat up to 315. For him to be able to physically match-up with OL at the 6A level, that bench needs to be approaching 260-pounds and the squat needs to be in the neighborhood of four-plates (405-pounds).

We will tell you a number right on the money. The kid is sporting a 3.6 GPA at one of the commonwealth’s premier college preparatory schools.

Looking at this kid’s frame, he has an impressive wingspan. Seventy-seven (77) inches translates to a wingspan of 6’5.” We believe this means he won’t be 6’1″ too much longer.

We like this kid to be in the rotation, with a good offseason, along the Tiger front defensively in ’23. Matter of fact, we believe he may well be starting by the time the playoffs roll into view.

When will Barker hit the field on Friday Nights? Barker believes the time is NOW!
