East Robertson traveled to Jo Byrns this past Friday night to resume a series in which the Indians, from East Robertson, hadn’t won a game in the series, home or away, since 1999. East Robertson, behind a fake punt which ended up a first down connection between Cameron Swift and Jamal Payne which set East Robertson up inside the Jo Byrns 20 and ultimately resulted in the game’s first TD, really could have taken home this award itself, as a team, and it would have been well warranted. However, some of the most noble and admirable efforts are often accomplished in defeat. Such was the case on Friday night as Cooper Richards, a Class of 2020 QB and FS prospect, fully demonstrated a masterful performance in spite of playing for the team which came up short on the scoreboard. Richards rushed for 148 yards from scrimmage in only 14 carries on a night which would see his team lose to East Robertson 22-8.

Jo Byrns, as has been discussed on this site previously, is an elite team, in its classification, year after year and were 9-2 a year ago. East Robertson being able to go on the road and beat an opponent of its ilk bodes well for East Robertson’s fortunes as we continue through the season.

Congratulations to Cooper Richards for being selected this week’s Stewart Williams Furniture Company’s Robertson County Player of the Week. Join us next week as we anoint a new recipient.
