Storm Warning: Hopkins County Central lost a game to lightening, Mid-point Report Card, Russellville begins second half

Like we have done in prior seasons, now the games are finally here, we will take the last week’s action and break it down and then look at the road ahead. We got an unexpected off week when lightening precluded our playing Kentucky Country Day in a game which will not be rescheduled. We have a winnable game on the road tomorrow night against a team with tradition, second to none on this end of the commonwealth. Russellville High School is struggling this year (0-5) but this program played for the 1A title just a few short years ago (2021) and has won three titles (1980, ’83, and ’90) while playing for four (4) more (1964, ’66, ’87, and 2021) Enjoy this feature and get out to the games this weekend. We had a slight misstep on the road at Fort Campbell this past Friday night and return home to face one of the best 1A teams in the commonwealth of Kentucky, Kentucky Country Day from Louisville. We tried to tell everyone Prestonsburg was back last year when the team posted 11-wins against 2-losses. Everyone got too caught up in P-burg’s late season loss to Breathitt, a Breathitt squad with a very young offensive backfield which had grown up quite a bit by the 1st of November. Anyway, Prestonsburg just beat the best team on its schedule in overcoming Hazard in Prestonsburg this pas Saturday. We had a slight misstep at home with North Hopkins this past Friday night and the trip to Fryar Stadium to play Fort Campbell means the sledding will not get much easier. Fort Campbell has made some personnel reassignments which should make the team harder than the one the staff has seen on film. Enjoy this feature and get out to the games this weekend. We are very pleased to welcome Lasaters Coffee & Tea to our growing family of advertisers. The Kelley family has a very long history in the local football industry and several of the Kelleys have had their numbers retired owing to their familial history of playing excellence. We had quite the successful road trip to Elkton, KY this past Friday night and North Hopkins visiting Morton’s Gap means the sledding will get much harder; certainly not any easier. North arrives with an enviable roster which includes plenty of All-State caliber players and even a Mr. Football frontrunner if your math is correct. We had quite the battle with Caldwell at home this past Friday night and the game turned on two fumble recoveries and a KO return for a TD comprising the 11-point difference between the two equally matched teams. Kamran Harrison is a “Harrison.” There are those of you who have followed this program for many years who will not need the first statement explained. Kamran is a kid who was expected to do big things last season, and was doing big things, until injury derailed his season. Having him return to the lineup fully healthy makes the Storm a better ball club. The Storm don’t get players as good as Kam Harrison everyday. Wells played in a single game in ’24. However, the 6’3,” 330-pounder in the 2027 graduating class proved the old Stanislavski adage about there being no small parts, just small actors is true even in football. Wells is coming off a third place finish at the Kentucky Powerlifting Meet in the Super Heavyweight Division and the young OL/NG is expected to play both ways this season in addition to his defensive role. This is a guy readying for a prominent role in ’25, a leading role, and he has put in the type offseason a young player should looking for that type of varsity PT. Enjoy the feature.

The high school game is a game where we don’t see a ton of 6’5,” 225-pound lineman, but we are generally excited when we do. This is a kid who excelled, this offseason, at powerlifting and that is generally a very good sign.
