The Independence Bank Revolutionary Player of the Week Award is among the commonwealth’s oldest and most respected weekly awards. Of course, Mr. Football is the ultimate award for any high school player in Kentucky to win. It is a huge honor just to be in the running. This week’s Revolutionary Player has been named to the preseason “Watch List” for Mr. Football. That is quite an honor. So is winning this. An agent of the magazine was at this scrimmage which was “Meet the Cougars” night at Letcher Central. The Cougars got to meet one of Breathitt’s more potent offensive weapons for the ’21 season in Isaac “Wheels” Turner. Turner was scintillating in this scrimmage and gave a foreshadowing of what kind of threat he poses opposing defenses on the schedule in ’21. This week’s “Revolutionary Player of the Week” is St. Xavier’s Micah Carter. The 6-5, 250-pounder is one of Kentucky’s very best at his position in either the ’23 class or any other. He already has an impressive list of offers and won the Defensive MVP of the EKU Big Man Challenge this past Saturday. We were pleased to attend the Eastern Kentucky University Seven on Seven and Big Man Challenge this past Saturday in Richmond, Kentucky. We were so thrilled to get to attend we sent two guys as Fletcher Long and I rode together. We are awarding the OL MVP this award today and this Friday the Defensive MVP will be the “Revolutionary Player of the Week” for Independence Bank. The event was worthy of sweeping the weekly awards. Trinity has before complained we don’t cover them sufficiently. We would beg to differ as we have feature quite a few of its primetime players through the years but we probably don’t write about Kentucky’s most talented roster as much as we could. Of course, we can’t just perpetually feature one team, unless their hiring. Anyway, this kid here will play big-time, college football because of his speed, regardless of what he does or doesn’t do on the football field. Good thing he is good on the football field too. We have made it no secret we enjoy publicizing the players who rarely get any publicity, the offensive linemen across Kentucky. Well, if I were putting together a line of scrimmage from all of the linemen across the commonwealth of Kentucky to play a football game, the Big Nashty would be prominently discussed as a starter on this line. When people ask us what we cover during the offseason, as we are strictly a football magazine, we tell them there is lots of stuff to cover offseason. Sevens, Track & Field, baseball, Powerlifting, all of these sports have football players starring in them as well as on the gridiron.
