If you want to talk about a team on the rise, a team on a heater, may we suggest you buy Garrard County now before the price climbs too high. Spencer Crutchfield has come into the Lancaster, Kentucky and built the programs into quite a formidable one. Adding the games preeminent defensive coordinator in Jeff Hester certainly didn’t hurt. Now the Golden Lions have to develop the roster talent and get it deployed. One guy who should help going forward is rising senior Dalton Flannery. We like his frame, we like his athletic skill set, we love his demeanor and aggression. It is time to get on the field and get it done. Can’t wait to monitor this situation as we go along. This is a super freak athlete from the Appalachia mountains. His father, an attorney in Hazard, Kentucky, told us his vertical is slightly over 43-inches and that Gavin won’t stop till it tops 45. What that means is his reported 40-time of 4.58-seconds isn’t even close. Johnson is much, much faster than that! This kid is really a physical specimen and should be firmly in the “Mr. Football” race his senior year in spite of his playing 1A football. We have said this many times. There are good teams and bad teams in the KHSAA and they span all six (6) of Kentucky’s classifications. Enjoy this feature and let’s keep it comfortable out there, Kentucky. We almost never know what to make of transfers. It seems, more and more, teams are picking up transfers and it becomes difficult to track. Our policy has always been not to comment on transfers until the young men have been cleared to play. Well, the Hazard Bulldogs picked up three huge transfers and all three have been cleared for play. What does it all mean. Hazard already boasts one of the finest and more talented rosters in the KHSAA 1A classification. Well, we think it means Hazard may be even better than we predicted in June. Enjoy the article.

Jack Long is a kid we weren’t sure would get cleared to play the coming season. As it turns out, he got cleared by provided he wears a helmet specifically designed to avoid head trauma, limit his contact through the week, and be permitted to wear a concussion cap during KHSAA games. As it turns out, Jack’s rejoining the team was important for reasons other than football. One of Jack’s coaches suffered a medical incident related to his exertion in the heat and other medical issues he was suffering at the time and Jack, mid-scrimmaging, was observant enough to notice it and call attention to it. The early detection may have made all the difference in the world.

It is easy to get caught up in the Markezz Hightower fan fare. Hightower is a fantastic ball player, an all state running-back, and coming off a near 1,800- total yards season with 21-TDs scored running and receiving. That aside, Hightower isn’t running a one-man band over there at North. Jayden Travis is a hulking TE with good speed, excellent power numbers, a fine GPA, and a 280-pound power clean evidencing tremendous explosion. Travis is coming off a 25-reception season himself and that is darn-fine playing on a run first team at the TE slot. This guy will field some offers in short order. If he has the kind of season in ’25 he had in ’24, look out 5A because the Maroons will be looking to improve drastically over the 7-4 it posted in ’24. There was a movie released by Disney in 1994 entitled “Angels in the Outfield.” It was a remake of a 1951 film of the same name. The remake starred Danny Glover, Tony Danza, and Christopher Lloyd and resulted in two (2), made for TV sequels. The movie was about a young child, in foster care, sarcastically told his family would reunite “when the Angels win the pennant” by his newly widowed father. Roger, the young boy who is the movie’s protagonist, prays for such and a group of angels appeared to help the team. At the end of the day, it was explained that while the “Angels in the outfield” helped the team surge to the top of the division, the “Angels” could not help the team win a title or championship. Well, Lincoln County looks to have gotten some Angelic assistance of its own in a 6’3,” 335-pound OL transfer from Southwestern with the surname of Flores. There are no heavenly imposed limitations on his assistance. Enjoy the feature.

Calloway County High is under new direction in 2025. Coby Lewis has been brought in from off the Tilghman staff to resurrect the Laker football program. Lewis helped the “Blue Tornado” to a 15-0 mark and a 4A title a year ago and will look to build off his former head coaching experience he had at Trigg County before joining Sean Thompson’s staff in Paducah. Lewis is the right man for this job and he will not find the cupboard barren. Brayden Tupper is a stout young guy who has considerable power and strength stacked on his frame now, especially in light of his being a rising junior. Guys who bench press 290, pull 535, and clean 255 generally play around these parts. Enjoy this article about a young gun who should be on the field plenty this coming season.
