We almost never know what to make of transfers. It seems, more and more, teams are picking up transfers and it becomes difficult to track. Our policy has always been not to comment on transfers until the young men have been cleared to play. Well, the Hazard Bulldogs picked up three huge transfers and all three have been cleared for play. What does it all mean. Hazard already boasts one of the finest and more talented rosters in the KHSAA 1A classification. Well, we think it means Hazard may be even better than we predicted in June. Enjoy the article.

Jack Long is a kid we weren’t sure would get cleared to play the coming season. As it turns out, he got cleared by provided he wears a helmet specifically designed to avoid head trauma, limit his contact through the week, and be permitted to wear a concussion cap during KHSAA games. As it turns out, Jack’s rejoining the team was important for reasons other than football. One of Jack’s coaches suffered a medical incident related to his exertion in the heat and other medical issues he was suffering at the time and Jack, mid-scrimmaging, was observant enough to notice it and call attention to it. The early detection may have made all the difference in the world.

The Kelley family has a very long history in the local football industry and several of the Kelleys have had their numbers retired owing to their familial history of playing excellence. It is easy to get caught up in the Markezz Hightower fan fare. Hightower is a fantastic ball player, an all state running-back, and coming off a near 1,800- total yards season with 21-TDs scored running and receiving. That aside, Hightower isn’t running a one-man band over there at North. Jayden Travis is a hulking TE with good speed, excellent power numbers, a fine GPA, and a 280-pound power clean evidencing tremendous explosion. Travis is coming off a 25-reception season himself and that is darn-fine playing on a run first team at the TE slot. This guy will field some offers in short order. If he has the kind of season in ’25 he had in ’24, look out 5A because the Maroons will be looking to improve drastically over the 7-4 it posted in ’24. Enjoy this feature and don’t forget to pick up some world famous jerky products from Mingua Beef Jerky and “SavorTheFlavor.”

There was a movie released by Disney in 1994 entitled “Angels in the Outfield.” It was a remake of a 1951 film of the same name. The remake starred Danny Glover, Tony Danza, and Christopher Lloyd and resulted in two (2), made for TV sequels. The movie was about a young child, in foster care, sarcastically told his family would reunite “when the Angels win the pennant” by his newly widowed father. Roger, the young boy who is the movie’s protagonist, prays for such and a group of angels appeared to help the team. At the end of the day, it was explained that while the “Angels in the outfield” helped the team surge to the top of the division, the “Angels” could not help the team win a title or championship. Well, Lincoln County looks to have gotten some Angelic assistance of its own in a 6’3,” 335-pound OL transfer from Southwestern with the surname of Flores. There are no heavenly imposed limitations on his assistance. Enjoy the feature.

Calloway County High is under new direction in 2025. Coby Lewis has been brought in from off the Tilghman staff to resurrect the Laker football program. Lewis helped the “Blue Tornado” to a 15-0 mark and a 4A title a year ago and will look to build off his former head coaching experience he had at Trigg County before joining Sean Thompson’s staff in Paducah. Lewis is the right man for this job and he will not find the cupboard barren. Brayden Tupper is a stout young guy who has considerable power and strength stacked on his frame now, especially in light of his being a rising junior. Guys who bench press 290, pull 535, and clean 255 generally play around these parts. Enjoy this article about a young gun who should be on the field plenty this coming season.

His name is Mason Griffin and he may be the best QB in the KHSAA with whom you might not be completely familiar. He is 6’4,” weighs 215-pounds and has a 4.0 GPA. Griffin plays for Next Up 7X7 and passed for 2,199-yards and 18-TDs his junior year in only 10-games of action. Griffin made his first team all-district squad and finds himself playing for a legendary head football coach in John Hines who has won over 200-career games. South Lauren is coming off a 6-win campaign and played in its first playoff game in years. Enjoy this feature about a young man whose star is on the rise and who may show up on some “Mr. Football” lists before all is said and done.

Hence is a guy who is hard to pigeon-hole. Yes, he can play some QB. Yes, he can play WR. Yes, he can play DB. Where should he play? I don’t know, where do you need him? This guy is what all high school rosters would love to have. Hence is a 6’2,” 180-pounder who can be plugged in anywhere. He was called upon to throw a few passes in ’24 and he completed 90% of his passing attempts (9/10). He caught 38-passes for nearly 500-yards and six (6) scores and was third on the team in scoring. Lucas Flint may be the strongest rising sophomore in KHSAA history. Fling it 6’1,” and weighs 285-pounds. He has bench pressed 405, squatted 555, power cleaned 275, and runs the 40-yard dash in a cool 4.9-seconds. He’s 15-freaking-years-old. This cat had 29-tackles playing 5A football in the commonwealth of Kentucky a year ago for a team routinely in the hunt for the 5A title. He plays for one of the best coaches to have ever walked a sideline and he is perfectly positioned to turn into a very highly recruited prospect. We love his frame, right now, for where he is projected to play next level, which is nose. He could turn around and make a “Drake Jackson-type” center on the offensive side, next level too. Lucas Franklin Flint, better learn the name now because everyone will want to know it in just a couple short years. Let’s keep it comfortable out there, Kentucky, and allow us to help you out in that regard.
