We have been hitting the history of the game we love better than any other this offseason pretty hard. Thing is, if we don’t do this then who will? We are telling you about players, coaches, and events which are such a rich part of the fabric of the KHSAA that they deserve to be told, they deserve preservation. This is another of those today. Ross Powers is a 5’7,” 190 pound football playing stud entering his senior year for the Hancock County Hornets. What did he do as a junior? Well he registered 162-tackles, 14-TFs, 3-sacks, 3-FFs, 3-FRs. That is quite a mouthful. Enjoy this look at the star MLB for Coach Bob Eubanks’ Hornet’s nest from Lewisport, Kentucky. Timmy Williams, a ’28 athlete and quarterback, came out of the middle school ranks among the more ballyhooed prospects the western Kentucky MS ranks could muster. Williams was off to a fast start when he got derailed by injury in the second week. If this guy can stay healthy, he could have a really solid sophomore campaign. So could the Trigg County Wildcats who have stepped down to 2A and will now face Mighty Mayfield on a yearly basis.

George Radford was among the greatest the Trigg County Wildcats ever put on a gridiron, a baseball diamond, or even a hardwood court. He was also a college letterman in football, an accomplished student, who became a wonderful coach, teacher, administrator, and now a businessman and entrepreneur. This guy could do it all. Henry Morgan plays for a program which has seen better days. Henry Clay High won a 4A title in 1981 and played for a second one in 1995. That was when there weren’t but four (4)-classifications. The Blue Devils are ready to get this ship righted and have brought in a proven “program builder” in Phil Hawkins. With talent like Henry Morgan entering his junior season, it won’t be too hard for the Blue Devils to keep it comfortable out there around district 7. If you were to look at all the ways Isac Earl contributed to Central’s bottom line over his junior season, you may draw the conclusion we did. He led the team in passing, led the team in receiving, led the team in scoring, was among the leaders in rushing, tackles, TFLs, and FFs. That is a ton of leadership out of one position. The 5’8,” 165-pound dynamo may be the Storm’s best all-around athlete on the roster not named “Gunn.” Enjoy this feature about a young man who brings on the stormy weather for Central foes.

One of our favorite songs used to proclaim loving “red necks, white sox, and blue ribbon beer.” The blue ribbon beer was a reference to Pabst Blue Ribbon, a famous brand of alcoholic beverage. We don’t know if the Pabst family who son is a stud ’27 football player in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky bears any type relation to the Pabst family from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Then again, we don’t know that they don’t. What we do know is Nathan Pabst is dad-burn good at football and he makes his team all the better when he contributes his considerable efforts.
