This is another special edition of our Big Ass Fans Kentucky Comfort Creator series. Jaylen Irish, a senior RB at 2A, Fort Knox High, is posting some incredible numbers in this, his senior year. The military schools have gotten notification they are being exempted from the federal shutdown in recognition of extracurricular activities being “…an important part of our military-connected students’ school experience.” Man, are we glad of that. Central is off this week. With the injuries we have suffered this season, and with the effect on our bottom line having some of these kids limited has caused, this off week may have come at the exact right time. We need to get healed up and ready for the Webster, Murray, and Crittenden stretch run towards the playoffs. If we run the table, we are assuredly in the playoffs. The Murray High Tigers have transformed under Head Coach Melvin Cunningham into a real Western Kentucky terror regardless of how large (or small) of an enrollment he may have at his disposal. The 3A juggernaut has just outlasted posted a 56-0 over Webster County and barely broke a sweat running its record to 7-0 heading into the bye-week. Amarion Bomar (’26) averaged over 25-yards a carry Friday night and house 50% of his opportunities. Couple his offense with what he has done this season out of the backfield on passing “check-downs” and defensively and you have quite a weapon. Enjoy this feature on this wonderfully gifted and talented young football star.

We had a ton of Thursday Night action, so much that I published some “Thursday Night Picks” which I rarely do. I turned in a 12-1 on the night, perhaps I should change my name to “Thursday Night Fletch.” Just kidding. Madisonville ran its record to 7-0 for the first time since 1983 and Fort Campbell got its game with Trigg County rescheduled which was the right thing for Trigg to do as we can’t hold the kids at Fort Campbell accountable for a governmental shutdown. Hopefully, the gridlock will have been resolved by Halloween or thereabouts. Enjoy this look at the Madisonville-North Hopkins/Muhlenberg County game in this feature.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t stop the federal government shut down from shutting down his team, his coaches, his teammates, and his assault on the KHSAA statistical website among 2A and KHSAA players. We need to find some way to come together and end the gridlock. That is as close to a political statement as you will ever get from us. If we wanted to talk politics, we would cover it. The Storm welcomes a district one heavyweight to Morton’s Gap this Friday night. Union County comes to Morton’s Gap fresh off a finals appearance in 2024 and a 21-14 win over a Hancock County team coming off an 8-win campaign a year ago and 4-1 entering the contest with Union last weekend. This is a daunting task but certainly not an undoable one. An upset here would be so huge. We have the personnel and ability to deliver such an upset but we have to be on our game, healthy, and playing mistake free/penalty free (pre-snap/composure) football to prevail. Come on out to Morton’s Gap this weekend and take in this first district clash. For all intents and purposes, the real season starts tomorrow night.
