Kris Hughes is one bad bunny. Matter of fact, we can’t find where we have before featured him and that is somewhat alarming to us. Hughes had a tremendous sophomore season for first-year head coach Clay Clevenger and he looks to have the Briar Jumpers back on the title track, if last year’s trip to the semis, and 10-4 finish, are any indication. Dylan Lee just finished his sophomore year. It would be difficult to imagine anyone having a better sophomore season than what we just witnessed out of Lee. He is a sprinter on the track team, plays basketball, and was a three-way contributor to a 6A ball club which made it all the way to the regional finals in Kentucky’s largest classification of competition. Ethan Bowling has been a “high energy guy” since coming out of the middle school ranks one of the better thought of prospects in the region at that level of play. Leron Jackson played for the worst team in 5A and perhaps all of Kentucky. The Raiders played 11-games and got drilled 11-times. The Raiders “high water” mark for the year was dropping a game to Trimble County on September 22 by three TDs. That doesn’t mean Keith May doesn’t have some great players in the “hopper.” Matter of fact, Coach May may (pardon the pun) be developing ’27’s premier LB and perhaps its best player at any position. Rohan Taylor returns at QB for a high school which traces its roots back to the first four-room public school built in Lexington. Taylor threw for nearly 1,000 yards and led the team in passing during a ’23 season which would experience an 0-11 work-slate with only one outcome, the 20-18 loss in the opener to Fleming County, in question. Obviously the play must improve and drastically. Is Taylor the man to lead this team through the wilderness? We think so. Enjoy this feature. Friday Night Fletch.

Waylon Abner is a member of one of the best units playing Kentucky football at the HS level, the “Big Blue Wave.” The “Big Blue Wave” is the OL for the Breathitt Bobcats. Sawyer Hall gets the majority of press but perhaps some of us might want to watch Waylon Abner. Abner is a ferocious pulling guard who may be the best at that discipline than any other guard or interior guy in the KHSAA. Enjoy the feature. Friday Night Fletch.
