Mike Shannon, the color analyst on Jack Biuck’s broadcasts on St. Louis Cardinals network used to say, “Well Abner (Doubleday), you’ve done it again.” It looks as though Abner Doubleday may have been dabbling in KHSAA football schedules as the Tigers put an unlikely win over district heavyweight, McCracken County, to the test and came up a bit short against a very good, 8-1, Somerset High team. The Tigers brace and prepare for a season ender against Tilghman’s “Blue Tornado” just before the commencement of “season number two,” the KHSAA playoffs. Enjoy this article as we will attempt to make some sense of it all. Well, not really, we’re just enjoying the melee. You enjoy it too. One only gets one life to live.

This usually is a pretty fun article. A few days ago we posted the “KPGFootball Scorecard.” On that document we memorialized the matchup and just who we believed would win and why. What we do in the scorecard is give you the solution. What we don’t do is demonstrate how we worked the problem. Thursdays, during the football season, we often publish an article which “shows our math.” If you read this article you will see why we picked the teams we picked to win and why we picked the teams we picked to lose. You may not agree and that is okay. We are wrong between 5-15% of the time. It makes for fine reading and generous discussion. Enjoy the article.

I was on a podcast and remarked that one of the superlative athletes rostered on the Christian County Tigers team needed to stand up and be “Daddy.” Every team has a dog and perhaps we learned on the road at McKenzie that Jalen Ray is ours. The Tigers got a big win, its first program win, on the road against a ranked TN opponent and one has to wonder aloud what this does for the season prospects from this point forward? This week our jacket patch goes to s senior WR who came up “big time” when it mattered most, Jalen Ray. Ray will be expected to be prepared, be ready, and to perform at a very high level as this journey we call the 2026 football season continues. Enjoy this look at young Jalen Ray who is our Bank of Cadiz & Trust Company All-State Player of the Week and third patch-recipient this young season.

We are doing something a little different this week. This week, we are scouting the opening opponent for the Christian County Tigers and forecasting a winner. This was shot around the table at our weekly editorial board meeting and wildly and excitingly discussed. The Longs like the Tigers in the matchup and the remaining table liked the Jaguars. It was 3-2. Can’t get much closer. Anyway, this is who we see it and this is the magazine’s official position. Enjoy the scout and don’t forget to get by one or Lasater’s four county wide locations and remember; at Lasaters you aren’t just served, you’re loved!

We are very pleased to welcome Lasaters Coffee & Tea to our growing family of advertisers. The Kelley family has a very long history in the local football industry and several of the Kelleys have had their numbers retired owing to their familial history of playing excellence. Football has been very good to their family and they look for ways to give back to this very special community. Lasaters is a place one goes to get caffeinated and motivated and couldn’t we all use a bit more of that invigoration in our daily routines. Get by one (1) of our four (4) Christian County, Kentucky locations and enjoy the roasted flavor of a hot cup of warmth and love. Lasaters, where you aren’t just served; you’re loved.

Tristin Dillard cleared for play at CCHS by KHSAA… @CoachAtchley @AlPopsFootball @ColonelFootball @ReallyTristin @minguabeefjerky @1776Bank

Tristin Dillard came out of Middle School ranked by most the pundits among the top three RBs in Kentucky’s 2027 graduating class. Dillard had a solid freshman season but has transferred to 6A, first district, Christian County and looks to us to be set for take off. The Colonels will be vastly improved in ’24 from the team which competed in ’23. Players like Dillard are the reason why. Enjoy the article. Friday Night Fletch.
