It is hard to come by quality quarterbacks. That is why people around the Lincoln County program are so pumped up about their class of ’24 phenom.

Sawyer Horton is put together exactly like one would want a quarterback to be built. He’s 6-2, weighs 190-pounds, and is veritably brimming with both athletic potential and reality.

Horton is one heck of a fine athlete. The football star is additionally well thought of in both basketball and baseball. One needs that level of athleticism heading up an offensive attack, particularly in high school.

Lincoln County put out a graphic that Horton was the first sophomore QB in program history to throw for more than 1,000 yards in a single season. Merely indicating he surpassed a thousand yards passing was a bit misleading. He completely squashed the milestone.

Horton completed 96 of his 157 passing attempts for 1,612-yards passing with 15-TDs against 8-picks. He also scored a couple times rushing the football incase anyone cares (we certainly do).

That is really fine production from a player who was forced into action playing 4A football at the most visible position on the field while only a sophomore. Truthfully, it would be fine production from a much older player.

So how good can this particular prospect be? Might we be talking about one of the all-timers in Patriot history?

That is hard to say. We may not be far enough along in his career arch to make that determination.

We can say that the program looks headed in a promising direction. We can say there is plenty of young talent on hand, guys like Sawyer Horton. We can say Horton is ready to take the next step and to soar to ever greater heights in his high school playing career.

This should be a fun one to monitor going forward. We’re happy to get to be along for the ride.
